Jasper Division 2008 Tourney Format “Common” Questions
(not applicable to Pittsburgh)
Who will handle disputes involving the TD? Someone will be appointed and announced before the tourney begins to handle any dispute involving the TD.
Do you allow people to "opt out" of a certain division (i.e. friends or brothers)? Yes
Assuming no Friday-night draft, what time are you starting on Saturday? 7:30 - Note that any Friday-night draft will have been announced on the Tournament page linking to this one.
What time are you starting on Sunday? 8:00
How many games will each series be? Most likely 2 games
How many games will we be playing on Saturday? on Sunday? Most likely 14 on Saturday (more if the draft was held Friday night), 8 more on Sunday, then Best-Of’s.
Will it be a set schedule on Saturday? Yes
Will the scheduled be initially set by a random chance? Yes. If someone needs a certain Bye or something we could probably adjust accordingly.
What happens if we don't complete the round robin on Saturday? If everyone returns we complete it on Sunday. If everyone doesn’t we immediately go to Power Matchups.
How many Power Matchups will there be (if any)? Depends on # of attendees and if we complete the Round Robin. It could be anywhere from Zero to Four.
How will Power Matchups be set? If there is only One or Four the last round will be set as 1v4, 2v3, 5v6, 7v8 etc. if two teams advance. If only one team advances it will be 1v2, 3v4. The other rounds will be set top-down (1v2, 3v4 etc.) if possible. You can’t play the same team twice unless you have been mathematically eliminated from advancing.
Can you play the same team more than once in a Power Matchup? Only if it is the 4th Round or both of you have been mathematically eliminated from advancing.
What about the last round of Power Matchups? Only if it is the 4th round
What if you have been mathematically eliminated does that impact Power Matchups? Then you can play the same team multiple times.
Are we using any modifications to the Suspended Game Rule? Yes. A “grace period” on Saturday and Sunday (20 minutes/30 minutes) but we will suspend multiple series per round if it applies. Also, if someone has multiple series Suspended at the end of the night Saturday or end of Regular Play on Sunday the TD reserves the right to appoint someone else to finish the games for expediency’s sake.
It in unlikely that the Arkansas, Oklahoma City & Tulsa tourneys will play that rule.
How are ties for seeding handled? Head-to-Head and if still tied a d-20 roll.
How are ties for advancing handled? Shootouts.
How are shootouts involving more than 2 teams handled? Seeded shootouts. If there are three teams for two spots Round 1 (Seed 1 vs. Seed 2) Round 2 (Loser of Round 1 vs. Seed 3) – both Winners Advance. If there are three teams for one spot Round 1 (Seed 3 vs. Seed 2) Round 2 (Winner of Round 1 vs. Seed 1) only the Winner of Round 2 advances. Others will be described if needed.
How are the playoffs seeded? Division seeding then record.
If there is a DSIM how is it determined where it drafts? In Indianapolis, it will draft _last_. More detailed info to come out about how a “DSIM” team would be drafted for that tourney (since no real DSIM is available). For other tourneys, DSIM “rolls” a die and takes the earliest available draft spot, if there is a DSIM in only one division.
If a real DSIM is available, is it different if there is more than 1 DSIM in a group (13 entries and 2 divisions)? Yes. DSIMs will pick four spots away from each other, so roll a d-20 and the last digit (provided it is 1-8) will be one spot and the other spot will be four spots away.
Is it different if more than 1 division has a DSIM? Yes. Roll a d-20 and the last digit will determine the spot in all groups.
Do you allow cross-overs? Yes
If cross-overs how are they determined? The same draft spot during Round-Robin play. The teams at the “bottom” during Power Matchups.
Is there a 3rd-place bracket? Indy, yes, provided we get 13 or more entries. Chicago, yes; Cleveland & Detroit, no.
If so, is it seeded? Yes
What happens to pitching when you drop into the 3rd-place brackets? All pitching resets
When there are less than 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th or extras and the winning/losing run is on 3rd, is the Outfield Automatically considered in? Yes
How are we going to handle it if there are 13 or 14 teams? Two groups of 8, except Indy, which has no DSIM - there will be one draft of 13 or 14, but two playing groups (for such a 14, there will be a vote to decide whether to have crossovers between the playing groups).
How would we handle 21-23? We would vote between two groups or three groups.
